Writing an Anecdote; Sharing a Personal Story

The following stories illustrate how the simple past and the past continuous tenses are used when writing a personal story. Study them and write your own anecdotes 

Story 1

Last summer, I had an amazing adventure. One day, I was hiking in the mountains with my friends. The sun was shining, and we were enjoying the beautiful view. While we were walking along the trail, we heard a strange sound coming from the bushes. We stopped to listen.

Suddenly, a rabbit jumped out! It was small and very cute. We all laughed and took pictures because we were so surprised. While we were watching the rabbit, a couple of hikers passed by. They were looking at us and smiling because it was a funny moment.

After a while, the rabbit ran away into the woods. We continued our hike, and the trail started to get steeper. Everyone was talking about how exciting it was to see the rabbit, and we felt happy. While we were climbing higher, we decided to take a break and have lunch.

As we were eating, we noticed a beautiful view of the valley below. The colors were stunning, and we took more photos. Then, I had an idea: I wanted to climb a little higher to see if we could find a better view. My friends agreed, so we continued up the path.

When we finally reached the top, we were amazed! The view was incredible, and we could see for miles. We took a lot of pictures and celebrated our achievement. Later, we went back down the mountain, tired but very happy. It was a day I will never forget!

A few months ago, I had a very interesting experience. One Saturday, I was walking in my neighborhood when I noticed something unusual. A group of people was standing around a large tree. They were looking up, and I was curious about what was happening.

As I walked closer, I saw that a baby squirrel was stuck on a thick branch. The little squirrel was squeaking, and it looked scared. Everyone was talking about how to help it. Some people were taking pictures, and others were trying to figure out how to get the squirrel down.

I thought it was a good idea to help, so I joined the group. While we were discussing what to do, a woman suggested that we call a local animal rescue. I agreed with her. While we were waiting for the rescue team to arrive, we watched the squirrel. It was moving around a little but still looked frightened.

About twenty minutes later, the animal rescue team arrived. They quickly set up a ladder and carefully climbed up to the branch. While they were saving the squirrel, everyone below was cheering them on. Finally, they rescued the little squirrel and brought it down safely. Everyone clapped, and I felt relieved.

After the rescue, the team decided to take the squirrel to a safe place where it could grow up. I was happy to see that the squirrel was safe and that I could be part of this adventure. It was an unforgettable day, and I couldn’t wait to tell my friends about it!

And one more 

One evening, I went to a concert with my friends. We were very excited because our favorite band was playing. Before the show started, we were standing in line for tickets, and I was talking to my friend about the songs we hoped to hear.

When we entered the concert hall, the lights went down, and the music began. Everyone in the audience was cheering and clapping. I felt the energy in the room, and I knew it would be a fantastic night. While the band was playing their first song, I saw a man who was dancing in a funny way. Everyone around him was laughing!

During the concert, I was singing along with my friends. We were having so much fun! Suddenly, in the middle of one song, the lead singer noticed the dancing man and invited him on stage. The crowd went crazy with excitement!

The man jumped up on stage and started dancing. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing! While he was dancing, the band played one of their most popular songs. It made the night even more special.

After the song finished, the man thanked the band and walked back to his seat. Everyone applauded, and I knew this concert would be one of my best memories. We left the concert hall feeling happy and talked about it all the way home.
