Class Conversation

Discussing Future Plans

Listen to the conversation and answer the following questions

Mr. Thompson: Good morning, class! Today, we're going to talk about your future plans. This will help us practice our English skills and learn more about one another. Who would like to share their plans first?

Sarah: I’ll go first, Mr. Thompson. I plan to become a veterinarian because I love animals and want to help them. After high school, I’m aiming to attend a university that has a strong veterinary science program. I’ve already started volunteering at a local animal shelter to gain some experience.

Mr. Thompson: That’s wonderful, Sarah! Volunteering is a great way to prepare for your future career. How about you, David?

David: Well, I’ve always been fascinated by technology and computers, so I want to be a software engineer. I’m planning to study computer science in college. Over the summer, I took some online coding courses, and I’ve been working on building my own website.

Mr. Thompson: Impressive, David! It sounds like you’re taking initiative to learn new skills. And Emily, what about your future plans?

Emily: I’m planning to become a teacher. I enjoy working with kids and helping them learn. After finishing my education degree, I hope to teach elementary school. I’ve been volunteering as a tutor for younger students, and it’s been a rewarding experience.

Mr. Thompson: Excellent, Emily. Teaching is such a noble profession. Each of you has chosen a path that suits your interests and skills. Now, let’s take some time to discuss any new vocabulary or expressions you heard today. Afterward, we'll do a short reading comprehension quiz based on the conversation.

Comprehension Questions:

1. What career does Sarah want to pursue, and why?

2. How is David preparing for his future career in software engineering?

3. Why does Emily want to become a teacher, and how is she gaining experience?
